Painting a forest background with depth


This is a 3-hour practical acrylic painting workshop exploring how to create depth and interest in background trees and foliage. Come along for an afternoon of painting and learning in my Brockville studio. This workshop caters to beginners up to developing artists.

2–5pm | $85 per person

In order to create depth we’ll explore an interplay between:
– Brush choice & mark-making
– Soft & hard edges
– Mixing colours and value scale
– Translucent & opaque paint
– Smooth & textured effects

Materials:
Please bring whatever you have available of your acrylic paints and brushes. Don’t worry if you don’t have everything or different equipment. We will make do. The canvas we will be painting on is provided by me and it is of smaller size, therefore, smaller brushes are an advantage.

Paints:

Here is a list of paints I will use of the GOLDEN range:

Titanium White and Zinc White
Cool Yellow, warm yellow (Benzimidazolone Yellow Light, cadmium yellow)
Cool Red, warm red (Alizarin Crimson, cadmium red)
Cool blue, warm blue, etc (Cyan, Ultramarine, Prussian Blue)
Sap Green
Cobalt Teal
Earth tones (Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Ochre
Ivory Black

Also bring: any medium or liquid to thin paint (eg.Glazing liquid or airbrush medium)

Brushes:

Fan brushes (size: 0/2 or 1)
Filbert (size: 8,10 or 12)
Flat brushes (various sizes from size 2-12)
Small rigger or liner brush (size 0/5, 0/2 or 1)
Mop brush or any kind of blender brush
